Tema Youth owner Wilfred Osei Palmer is wary of the role of betting companies play in Ghana league matches in the wake of referee Joseph Lamptey’s lifetime ban.
The Executive Committee chairman was adamant the scandal in football matches were beyond referees with these betting companies looking to fix some matches.
Osei Palmer’s Tema Youth gained promotion back into the Premier League and the vice chairman of the Black Stars management team has confirmed being approached.
For him, these companies are looking to compromise some matches.
“The FA should begin to have a look at the betting companies in our league,” he told Asempa Sports.
“When I gained promotion to the Premier League, a group of people called me and said they wanted to meet me over the matches I will be playing but I told them I am not interested in that.
“If I refuse their offer, they will try to approach the match officials and if they also fail to honor that offer, they will approach the home team so in big matches, the betting companies have huge influence in our matches.
“I have been told by one of my members that I should be wary of the betting companies and I asked him why and he told me I should have a look at how my matches have been arranged especially my away matches so I should be extra careful.
“I can confidently say that the betting companies and those who bet on matches have a team put in place to work and invincible forces that are working behind closed doors in our local league so I will urge the FA to take a critical look at the attitude of betting companies.
