Wladimir Klitschko will invoke his contractual clause for a rematch against new world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury sometime in 2016.
In a post on his official Facebook, Klitschko announced that he would indeed attempt to reclaim the WBA, WBO, IBF and The Ring world belts from Britain's Fury, who shocked the Ukrainian and ended an 11-year undefeated streak at Dusseldorf's ESPRIT Arena on Saturday.
'Dr. Steelhammer' told his fans in the video posted to his official Facebook to "stay tuned for details on where and when" the rematch would take place.
It was confirmed at the post-fight press conference that the contract for the title fight had a rematch clause. In addition, some reports have suggested this clause stipulates that a return bout would also take place in Germany, rather than in Britain - though Fury as champion is set to receive a far bigger payday than for the first bout.
Reports suggest the challenger received £5million from his title-winning tilt, while the dethroned champion pocketed £15million.
One of the governing bodies with a title involved, the IBF, ordered Fury to make a mandatory defence against Vyacheslav Glazkov, with Glazkov's representatives requesting the contest proceed immediately to purse bids, a tactical move to prevent Fury's camp requesting permission to fight his own choice of opponent (in this case, the requested rematch with Klitschko) before then preparing for the mandatory.
This has seemingly prompted Klitschko to make his decision public sooner than what he said at the press conference, when he declared that he would spend Christmas with his family before making a decision.
