A woman stripped naked to protest a demolition of a fuel station at Mile 7 in Accra belonging to the Sports Minister and Ayawaso East MP Naser Mahama Toure.

The middle-aged woman was joined by 10 able-bodied men to mount a fierce resistance of the demolition exercise being carried out by the Ga West Municipal assembly Monday morning.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Ga West, Sam Atukwei Quaye led the exercise following fatal flooding in Accra that claimed over a 100 lives last Wednesday night.

Freelance Journalist Benjamin Henaku reports that the demolition team had destroyed a washing bay built on the waterway and was about to do same to the fuel station next to it.

But the team faced resistance after the ‘macho’ men and the woman, half naked, engaged the demolition squad.

The canopy over the fuel pumps were destroyed before the exercise was eventually halted.

The MCE claimed the fuel station had no permit and was sited on a waterway.

Benjamin Henaku also explained the washing bay and the station had cramped out space meant for a road.

This, he said, made it difficult for traffic on the road to flow.

But a special assistant to the NDC MP Ousmanu Guarantee rejected the MCE’s claim.

“They are breaching the procedures of demolition. The structure at the center of controversy is not on a waterway, not close to a waterway and far away from a waterway”, he insisted on Joy News.

Benjamin says his checks reveal that the MP from the governing party is in the process of obtaining a permit for the station.

The parties in the demolition are said to be in talks to resolve any differences.

Naser Mahama Toure entered parliament in 2012 after winning parliamentary elections by about 63%.

City authorities have been emboldened to carry out demolition exercises as an angry public accuse them of playing a role in the disaster that has fallen the country.

Officials are under pressure to be seen to living up to their responsibilities.

The president has warned that the building of unauthorized structures will no longer be tolerated as the country wakes up to the hard truth that indiscipline is the cornerstone of Ghana’s flooding crisis.
