Police in Wa are investigating a shooting incident in which a 12 year old Sadat Mohammed is alleged to have shot his colleague, Hafiz Yahya at a Bomiyiri, a suburb of Wa.
The incident happened on Monday, in the bedroom of the suspect's father who has been bedridden for several years.
The 12 year old victim was rushed to the Wa Regional hospital for doctors to remove the pellet in his right shoulder.
According to the Upper West Criminal Investigations Department Officer, DSP Daniel Kwantwi, both the suspect and the victim went into the bedroom of the suspect’s father in search of bread but they ended up finding the locally manufactured gun.
‘‘He picked the pistol from the drawer and in the course of fidgeting with it, the pistol went off hitting the right shoulder of his friend who is also 12 years of age.
DSP Kwantwi said the suspect is a juvenile offender and cannot be kept in police cells and would be released to his family members whilst investigations go on.
‘‘Our initial investigations revealed that the suspect has no intention to kill his colleague. He himself got wounded in the process because he was fidgeting with the pistol. We will now investigate his father who has been bedridden for close to 17 years for keeping an unauthorized locally manufactured gun in his room,’’ he insisted.
In another development, a 27 year old farmer, Taleeke Golidike from Sinklo near Mankuma in the Northern Region had his right palm chopped off completely after he tried to prevent his single barrel gun from falling on the ground.
He was on his way to the farm when the incident happened.
He has been transported to the Wa Regional Hospital.
