Thousand two hundred police and hundred military officers have been deployed to provide security at the upcoming national delegates congress of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) scheduled for April 12 in Tamale.
This security arrangement according to the Director of Elections of the NPP, Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah is to ensure order and success of the programme.
“Security of our members is of much importance to us and the police have given a firm commitment that security is under control” he added.
Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah urged party members without accreditation not the come to the congress grounds because security will not be compromised.
The congress is to elect national executives to steer the affairs of the party in the next four years.
He noted that various committees put in place to handle accommodation, feeding, security and other issues have accomplished their tasks.
Mr. Adjei -Mensah Korsah promised the election committee will create an equal playing field to ensure free and fair elections.
For the chairmanship postion, incumbent chairman, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey is being challenged by business mogul Paul Afoko, Stephen Ntim, and first vice chairman Fred Oware.
Freddie Blay, Sammy Crabbe, Fred Amankwa Sarfo, Kenwood Nuworsu, Frederick Fredua Antoh, Hajia Fati Amadu, Sheikh TB Damba, Michael Omari Wadie are among aspirants going for the first, second and third vice-chairmanship positions.
Incumbent General Secretary Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as Sir John, faces stiff competition from Kwabena Agyapong, Nkrabea Effah Darteh and Yaw Buaben Asamoa for the position whilst incumbent National Organizer, Alhaji Moctar Bamba is being challenged by Hopeson Adorye, John Boadu and Mahama Mahammoud.
Those contesting for the National Youth Organizer position include Sammy Awuku, Charles Adu Gyamfi, Michael Kwabena Ampong and Gifty Oware and incumbent Emmanuel Attefuah-Danso.
Mawusi Awity and Tina Mensah are challenging incumbent National Women’s Organizer, Otiko Afisa Djaba for the post.
Other positions to be contested include Nasara Coordinator and National Treasurer positions.
The NPP national executive elections are part of re-organization process of the party towards the 2016 general elections.
