A 19-year-old lady, Ikima Adams, who is said to be a member of a group of gangsters that have been snatching vehicles at gunpoint from their owners in Kumasi and its environs, has been nabbed by the Tafo/Pankrono Police.
Ikima was arrested with one of her accomplices, Emmanuel Osei, at Hemang near Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital, on March 13,2014, using a Nissan taxi registered AS 5082-14, which police suspect they from its driver.
The two suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
Police have been mounted a wild search to apprehend other members of Ikima's terror group who are at large.
This was disclosed by the Tafo/Pankrono District Police Commander, Superintendent Frank Aborakwa, during a press conference at the Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters on Tuesday.
The briefing, which was held at the instance of the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Kofi Boakye, was to let the media know about the robbery cases in the region and how the police were battling them.
Throwing more light on the arrest, Superintendent Aborakwa said around 1:00 am on March 9, Ikima, who lives at Tafo, chartered the taxi of one Kwaku Duah (driver of the vehicle mentioned above) to Hemang.
Upon reaching a quiet place at Hemang, Ikima asked the driver to stop, pretending she wanted to urinate. The unsuspecting driver immediately adhered to her request.
Minutes after the driver had stopped the car, four men quickly rushed to the taxi from the bush and snatched it from fear-stricken Kwaku Duah at gunpoint.
At that moment, according to the police officer, Ikima joined the car as the robbers pushed the driver to the back seat and sped off towards Mpobi area where they tied his hands and legs with a rope and eventually dumped him in a bush and left.
Kwaku Duah later reported the matter to the police after he was rescued.
The police then started hunting down Ikima and the other gangsters, Superintendent Aborakwa told the media.
On March 13, 2014, he said Kwaku Duah spotted Ikima and one of the men who snatched his car at Hemang and quickly informed the police.
The police then arrested them subsequently.
The taxi driver identified Ikima Adams as the lady who chartered his taxi and Emmanuel .Osei as the man who pulled the gun at him, when the suspects were brought to the police station.
Superintendent Aborakwa, who is also the Acting Divisional Police Commander for Tafo/Pankrono, said the police were tirelessly hunting for the other members of Ikima's group.
DCOP Kofi Boakye described Ikima's arrest as very key in the police's fight against robbery, notably, car-snatching cases, noting that she (Ikima) had been involved in several top car-snatching cases in the region.
