The Department of Agriculture in Obuasi has acquired and cleared a land for a nursery at Mameriwa Number-2 in the Obuasi Municipality.
There has already been the procurement of 50,000 citruses and 25,000 pre-germinated nut oil palm seeds and all other necessary equipment for the nursery.
It is in line with Government’s, One District One Factory policy of industrialising the economy and creating jobs.
This was revealed during the sessional address of the Municipal Chief Executive for Obuasi Municipal, Elijah Adansi-Bonah, in Obuasi.
Elijah Adansi-Bonah says the assembly is working to provide new blocks to ease congestion in classrooms five basic schools in the municipality.
He also revealed that work was in progress to abolish the shift system in three schools: Bongobiri Primary, Adaase J.H.S, Nana Ponkor KG, Bedieso KG, and Obuasi S.D.A Primary School.
HEALTH
The Obuasi MCE revealed that the Assembly through the Municipal Health Directorate has outlined measures to deal with the surge in HIV and TB cases in the Municipality.
These include a stakeholder’s sensitisation at the community level, Education on Radio, Equality tests and contact tracing.
Member of Parliament for Obuasi West, Kwaku Agyemang Kwarteng, concedes that Government’s resolve to implement its flagship programmes has affected capital expenditure.
He was optimistic that the $2 billion facility for the construction of priority projects by Chinese firm Sinohydro Corporation would be a welcoming intervention.
On the much talked about Anwiankwanta- Obuasi-Dunkwa Road, Kwarteng assured members of the Assembly that, “the 40 km road remains a top priority of the Government and I am optimistic that it would be constructed even before election 2020.”
He highlighted projects he plans to embark on in the Municipality. These include:
The Kokoteasua – Estate Road
Several electrification projects
Abompe Road
200 Streetlights
The antenatal shed for Obuasi Government Hospital
Zongo by pass
The two (2) day General Assembly Meeting was held as the town council presided.
