After finishing third at the 2015 African Youth Championship in Senegal, the next major assignment for the Black Satellites is the Fifa U20 World Cup in New Zealand in May/June this year.
Each of the semi-finalists at the AYC discovered their World Cup opponents right after their final games.
Ghana were opened to either Group B or C depending on the outcome of Sunday’s third place play-off against Mali.
Group B was reserved for the third-place team at the AYC, while the fourth-place team slots into Group C.
Eventually, Sellas Tetteh’s men, by virtue of their 3-1 win over Mali, automatically gained an entry into Group B.
Ghana, the 2009 champions, will first play against Austria on May 30 at the Wellington Regional Stadium.
Three days later, the West Africans will lock horns with Argentina in what could be one of the toughest fixtures at the group stage. The two former champions are both seen as group favourites, and the result could end up determining who actually settles for the top spot in Group B.
Argentina, though, have an enviable record, being the most successful team with six gold medals. En route to their triumph in 2001, they beat Ghana 3-0 in the grand finale.
The Satellites will travel to Auckland on June 5 to face off with Panama in their last group match.
Ghana won a bronze medal at the last edition in Turkey.
