A 23-year-old man, Numeglo Alavanyo has been arrested by the Police at Nsawam for allegedly killing his 80 year-old father at Agbada near Nsawam in the Akwapim South Municipality.
Briefing the Ghana News Agency at Nsawam, District Superintendent of Police (DSP) Alex Kodjo Wowolo said Numeglo raised the head of Nobila Alavanyo, who was sleeping and slashed his throat with a sharp cutlass, without provocation.
He said the deceased who shouted for help was found dead in a pool of blood.
DSP Wowolo said the suspect accompanied his two siblings to farm on Wednesday and left them to commit the act.
He said Numeglo who confessed the crime to the police said he was instructed by a strange voice to kill his father.
DSP Wowolo said the suspect was met standing by the corpse when the brothers returned from the farm to meet the gory scene.
One of them rushed to the police to report the incident, leading to the arrest of the suspect.
He said the body had been sent to Accra Police Hospital mortuary for autopsy while investigations continued.
