The police have nabbed three suspects in yet another fraudulent move to lure Ghanaians into non existent jobs in South Africa. The victims of this latest case are said to be mostly mine workers who were enticed by a radio advert to resign their posts, collect millions of cedis in entitlements and invest in a South African trip that turned out to be hoax. The suspects, Tismark Joseph Kojo Imbiah, 53, Moses Gomez, 52, and Godwin Darko, 27 are currently in police custody pending further investigations. The Director General of the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service, David Asante Apeatu told newsmen in Accra yesterday that Tismark who claims to be the Managing Director of Future Impressions, a travel and tour company and Gomez, the Director of Tarkwa based Mine Workers Consultancy to be advertised on a Tarkwa based radio station on March 5, 2007 that tradesmen and professionals were needed to work for a South African based company, Virgin Field Tourism, a shipping line. Based on that advertisement, he said many young people including mine workers resigned their posts to go on the trip. He said a minimum of GH cedis 2,000 (20 million cedis) was demanded from each of the prospective job seekers. Mr Asante Appeatu said after collecting the money with the pledge of securing all traveling documents and travel arrangements for the victims, Tismark and Moses absconded to Accra. He said the suspects quickly changed their cell phone numbers and were therefore incommunicado with their clients. According to the CID Boss, three of the victims followed up to Accra to track down the suspects saying while they were in Accra they managed to get the contact number of one of the suspects. He said the victims called the suspects and feigned interest in traveling to Germany, claiming that they needed the suspects’ assistance, since a friend had given their contact number to the victims with the explanation that they (suspects) could assist the victims. Mr Asante Appeatu said Tismark and Moses then sent Darko to meet the new clients at a place at Kaneshie. He said based on that arrangement, the victims informed officials of the Visa and Documentation Fraud Unit of the CID who came to join them. He said when Darko showed up, he led the victims and the policemen to the hide out of Tismark and Moses at East Legon.
