The Ghana Health Service says 46 out of the 96 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the Bono Region are health workers.
The Acting Bono Regional Director of the Service, Dr. Kofi Amo Kordieh who disclosed this at a press conference in Sunyani said the health professionals are currently receiving treatment with many in self-isolation.
According to Dr. Kordieh, some of the health workers who had contracted the disease are asymptomatic with four showing mild symptoms.
The Wenchi Municipality reportedly has the highest case count with 42 confirmed cases.
Three districts namely; Dormaa West, Dormaa East and Tain are yet to record any case.

Dr Kordieh noted that “active contact tracing is still ongoing as the Service continues to manage the outbreak through routine and enhanced surveillance.”
Currently, about seven hundred and seventy-nine (779) health workers in Ghana have contracted the coronavirus disease.
Nine of them have, however, succumbed to the disease, while a large number in isolation awaiting their test results after being exposed to the virus in the line of duty.

A joint press statement by the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Health Services Workers' Union of TUC Ghana (HSWU) and Government and Hospital Pharmacists Association (GHOSPA) on Thursday, July 9, described the situation as worrying.
 According to the statement, 190 members of the GMA, 410 nurses, 156 members of the Health Services Workers Union, and 23 members of the Pharmacist Association make up the number of infected health personnel.
