Forty seven suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of the Shigu chief, Yakubu Andani late Monday. The late chief, whose legitimacy has been questioned by some family members of Sanerigu, a suburb of Tamale, was ambushed on a motorbike and hacked to death by some unknown assailants.Five houses have been torched after the incident and residents are said to have deserted the village for fear of reprisal attacks.Public Relations Officer of the Northern Regional Police Commander Chief Inspector Ebenezer Tetteh confirmed to Joy News that some suspects, 47 of them - all men, have been picked up for screening. He said 18 locally manufactured guns, sharp cutlasses, talismans and gun powder were found in the rooms of some of the suspects after the police ransacked the village.Ebenezer Tetteh said thorough investigations were still underway, and the suspects who are knee-deep into the killing of the chief will be charged for committing the “dastardly act.”It is still unclear whether the murder had direct links with the simmering chieftaincy disputes.Mr Ebenezer Tetteh said his outfit will do all it can to restore peace in the area.Meanwhile the Metropolitan Chief Executive of the area, Abdulai Haruna Friday led a delegation of some security personnel to the area in an attempt to build confidence in the residents to return to their homes. He advised residents who fled the area to return.
