Residents in 64 Island communities in the Krachi West District of the Oti Region who have lived all their lives without basic social amenities can heap a sigh of relief as electricity is extended there for the first time.
The ongoing project, initiated by the local assembly with the support from the Energy Ministry, is expected to connect all 64 communities to the national grid by November 2019.
Elated residents say this will open up the area and improve on living standards.
The assemblyman for the area Efo Kofi was happy his people are for the first time, going to have some developmental projects.
District Chief Executive for the area, Douglas Nti Osei, the people at the 64 islands deserve the best and also the resources being enjoyed by others on the mainland.
"The people on the islands deserve the best too and we must give them what they desire," Mr Douglas Ntim Osei said.
An engineer at the Energy Ministry supervising the projects, Seth Mahu, was happy that the people are also going to have electricity extended to their communities which would also help bring about massive economic activities to the communities.
