The 8th General Assembly of the Atlantic Federation of African Press Agencies (FAAPA), held under the theme “African Press Agencies as Vehicle for Promoting the Continent’s Health Sovereignty,” adopted, on Thursday in Salé, the Federation’s action plan for 2025.
This action plan, adopted on the second day of the meeting chaired by FAAPA President and Director General of the Moroccan Press Agency (MAP) Fouad Arif, covers several areas, namely organizing meetings, professional training and qualification, multimedia, communication, cooperation and partnership.
Concerning the organization aspect, the plan calls for the 9th FAAPA General Assembly to be held in late 2025, with a panel discussion on “Digital innovation for African media: challenges and opportunities for news agencies”.
Under this action plan, the 10th FAAPA Executive Council meeting is set to be held in Libreville, Gabon.
In terms of training and professional capacity-building, FAAPA intends to hold a seminar on photojournalism, a forum for news directors, and a meeting of women leaders at the Training Center for African Journalists (CAFJ).
FAAPA is also scheduling a symposium for information systems directors, a meeting of sports journalists from African news agencies, and workshops for fact-checkers.
With regard to the promotion of multimedia, the action plan calls for redesigning FAAPA’s website and expanding its editorial content, reinforcing the Network of Women Leaders (NWL-FAAPA) website and developing the Fact-Checking section of the FAAPA website.
A website dedicated to the network of sports journalists (RJS-FAAPA) will also be created.
Regarding the communication aspect, the action plan calls for holding and participating in African and international media activities and events, as well as awarding the FAAPA Grand Prize for best video report, best article and best photo in 2025.
With a view to promoting cooperation and partnership, FAAPA intends to sign cooperation and partnership agreements.
The second day of this GA was also marked by the examination and adoption of the report of the 7th General Assembly, the report on the 9th FAAPA Executive Council meeting held last October in Abidjan, and the report on the training seminars.
