The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said its 24-hour-long National Executives elections has been caused by the huge number of delegates.
Kofi Atoh, a former NDC MP for Ho Central, told Joy News’ Roland Walker at the Accra International Trade Fair Centre, where the 9th National Delegates’ Congress of the party is taking place, that this year has seen the highest number of delegates.
“The conference was in three parts. We had the opening ceremony, which ended around 2 pm; then we had a period where we amended the parts of our [NDC] Constitution. We were expecting that that would take quite some time but somehow it didn’t take so much time.
“The third part was the election. The Election Commission had to set up 9,039 people. This is the first time...the last we were in Kumasi, it was 3,500…This particular one has about 9,000 voters and about 4,000 observers. So they had to set up. It took some time,” he explained.
Some delegates have condemned the delay in the election process that started Saturday morning, concluding that the Congress is the worst ever.
The delegate, who gave his name only as Yusif, told Joy News’ Roland Walker, that although the voting process has been peaceful, it has dragged for too long.
