A cross section of Abudus and Andanis in Dagbon, have demonstrated their spirit of togetherness during a Unity Walk organized by the Dagbang Malima Zungo (DAMAZ) youth group.
The Unity Walk in Tamale brought together people from both sides of the chieftaincy divide in the Dagbon State.
They held placards with inscriptions such as, “Dagbon needs peace for development,” “Dagbon must rise again,” “The youth are in support of the roadmap to peace,” and “We need Yaa-Naa now.”
Some of them commended the Asantehene-led Mediation Committee for the final roadmap to the restoration of peace.
They called on leaders of the Abudus and the Andanis to fully comply with the Committee’s final roadmap as a means of restoring peace and unity in Dagbon.
Chairman of DAMAZ, Alhaji Baako Jagbo in a statement said Dagbon is bigger than any individual’s interest.
He thanked the people of Dagbon for smoking the peace pipe following the Mediation Committee’s final roadmap declaration.
“We are happy that the two factions have decided, with the Otumfuo-led Committee to end the Abudu/Andani fracas. We are happy that generations upon generations would celebrate this epoch as the turning point of Dagbon.”
“We are happy that we now have the leverage to go on with our businesses. We are happy that our fathers have given us hope that the days of guns are completely over. We are happy that peace and Harmony are a few miles from us with the Roadmap to Peace.”
Alhaji Jagbo implied that the youth of Dagbon were tired of the chieftaincy stalemate.
“There is a clear message and that is that the youth of Dagbon are completely tired. Let us take this opportunity to applaud our fathers and royals for their decision to end the Abudu /Andani impasse.
We would equally like to take this opportunity to call on our fathers to do more. If there are still issues that are not in tandem with Dagbon customs, let our revered royals use their wisdom, and we trust their wisdom, to do indoor jawjaw.”
“We believe that the final Roadmap to Peace must be accepted as the final way to go. We wish to appeal to our wise fathers and royals to also call on youth groups to cooperate with the REGSEC in ensuring peace before, during and after the funerals of our late two overlords.”
He tasked the law enforcement agencies to remain resolute and flush out troublemakers.
“We would appeal to the Abudu gate and the Andani gate to respect the terms of the final roadmap to peace. Let the students, women, children, aged, vulnerable, and businessmen and women in Dagbon have a full assurance of hope and prosperity. Do us the favour of compromising and give peace a chance. All our ancestors, from Na Gbewa through Naa Mahamadu IV and Naa Yakubu Andani II must all have rest now. Dagbon must reawake from its long slumber. Dagbon must rise again.”
“We wish to assure the Regional Minister and the REGSEC, the Otumfuo-led Committee, and all the actors in our peace journey that we the youth are ready to cooperate. Let the Security deal decisively with any youth who may wish to play intransigence. If they are not tired, we are.”
