The youth have been advised to engage in regular exercise and develop interest in knowing their health status to enable them live a healthy lifestyle.
According to Mr John Napoleon Gbolonyo, President of St. Thomas Aquinas Senior High School Old Students Association affectionately called Old Toms, the increasing rate of deaths among young people is as a result of people lacking information or not being aware of their health status.
Mr Gbolonyo was speaking to Myjoyonline.com after a Health Walk organized by Old Toms last Saturday. The walk which began and ended in the Aquinas High School took patrons through streets of Cantonments to Labone and to Osu to visit the first premises of the school before hitting the Oxford Street on its way back to the school.
After a short aerobic exercise, participants underwent some health checks to assess their hypertension level as well as weight. In future the exercise would be extended to cover Hepatitis B, Sugar level among others, Mr Gbolonyo said.
Meanwhile, President of the Old Toms said his vision is to strengthen the year group and bring more former students of Aquinas together to contribute in diverse ways to their alma mater and also strike acquaintances. He appealed to members to regularly pay their dues, and also called on philanthropist to donate to the course of the school through SG-SSB account no. 0012010023741 Accra Main Branch.
He announced that Old Toms in collaboration with Old Students of Accra Girls High School will pay a visit to the Matthew 25 Foundation in Koforidua on 4th May.
The day was crowned with sumptuous meal whilst patrons danced the event away with some entertaining music.
