Ghana observed the day with the focus “healthy teeth for healthy life”. According to a new report by the Health Ministry, 60 to 90 per cent of children in Ghana are affected by dental decay annually.
A Specialist Restorative Dentist at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Papa Pupulampo advised Ghanaians on proper dental care and regular dental checks. He also stressed brushing of teeth twice daily to prevent dental decay.
According to him, “poor oral health is a major global problem, and dental decay, the most common chronic childhood disease as well as the most frequent non-communicable disease worldwide”.
As part of activities to mark the day, Pepsodent, in collaboration with the Health Ministry and the Ghana Dental Association offered free dental screening and education to the public.
Pepsodent, produced by global household consumer goods manufacturer, Unilever, mounted a mobile dental clinic at forecourt of Joy FM and screened staff of the Multimedia Group Ltd.
