Several students of the EP Senior High School in the Saboba District of the Northern Region have been injured following an attack on them by angry youth from a nearby community Sunday afternoon.
More than fifty thugs are said to have attacked the school with clubs, machetes and guns wounding the headmaster and some students.
The attack follows an attempt by students to block a footpath across their compound often used by residents of a nearby community.
An eyewitness told Joy News that, a woman, who defied the barrier created, was attacked by the students Saturday.
“The woman went and reported it to community and yesterday [Saturday] they nearly attacked [the school but] the issue was resolved only for them to attack the school this [Sunday] afternoon,” he said.
The witness narrated that, “the whole community, they came with guns and machetes and started beating and assaulting the teachers that were on campus as at that time and the headmaster, he was coming out of his house and they met him at the entrance.”
The students have fled to the township for safety and “the headmaster was assaulted and he is now in police custody,” he added.
The regent of the town, according to reports, is currently on campus to help find a lasting solution to the matter.
The Police have managed to restore order but Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer; ASP Ebenezer Tetteh told Joy News more men will be deployed to the community to prevent a recurrence.
“As we speak the Saboba police have called for reinforcement from Yendi so we are expecting men from Yendi to go and beef up the numbers at Saboba to provide security for the students,” Ebenezer Tetteh assured.
