Teacher unions across the country have called off their indefinite industrial action until further notice. The decision followed a meeting with President John Mahama and the leadership of the teacher unions at the Flagstaff House on Monday. The president appealed to the teachers to suspend their action while their concerns were being addressed by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission as well as the Ghana Education Service. The teachers called the strike on March 15, 2013, to demand better conditions of service. However, at a joint news conference held in Accra on Tuesday, the various teacher unions - Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), National Association of Teachers (NAGRAT), Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT) and the Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU)- announced the suspension of the industrial action.
