Salatu Alhassan, a 31-year old widow, says a timely reportage of her plight by the Multimedia platforms and subsequent response from the public saved her life and that of her 3 children.
According to Salatu Alhassan, she at a point contemplated poisoning the entire family of four after their home was razed down by fire at Breman–Nkontwima, in Kumasi.
She and her children lost all their belongings in that fire.
Nhyira Fm's Ohemeng Tawiah who first reported the incident said they had to sleep under a mango tree after their house got burnt.
“She then decided they will rather die than to live in such dehumanising conditions,” Ohemeng stated.
However the swift intervention, by some philanthropists who donated food and other aids, has helped the entire family. Their apartment has been renovated.
Amid sobs, Salamatu said life was difficult for them but the assistance was timely. I would have killed myself and the children…I couldn’t have done anything else than to commit suicide, she explained in Twi.
