Government’s intervention to get people engaged in small-scale illegal mining to stop has helped water bodies but it has come too late.
The once beautiful river has suddenly turned muddy and heavily polluted due to the “galamsey” activities.
The river that used to flow unhindered is now stagnant.

The Pra River, for years, has been a major source of drinking water for dozens of communities stretching along the courses of the river.
Richard Kwadwo Nyarko visited Twifo Praso and stood on the Twifo Praso Bridge overlooking the river and brought us these pictures of the sad state of affairs of the river:
