About one thousand people are homeless and several properties have been destroyed following Tuesday 2nd April’s rainstorm at Afadjato South District in the Volta region.
Affected people are in desperate need of relief items.
Member of Parliament for the area, Joseph Amenowode, who toured the affected areas have called on National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to urgently extend support to the victims.
The rainstorm has also destroyed some schools within the communities causing their closure until further notice.
Afadjato’s biggest and busiest market was also destroyed.
Meanwhile a Citifmonline report said the Afadjato south District NADMO coordinator Justice Ken Kpakah said NADMO is collaborating with the national officers to organise relief items for the affected communities.
According to the report, NADMO has collated the figures from all the affected communities and are assessing the damage on a community by community basis.
Mr. Kpakah was quoted in the report as saying "We forwarded our report to the regional office and the DCE of Afadjato, Angela Tay has, collated all the reports from us and sent it to the National level so we are waiting for their assistance. When they release the supply to us then we will go for it and release it to the affected people."
