A presidential hopeful of the Convention People's Party (CPP), Mr. George Opesika Aggudey, has predicted a one-touch victory for CPP in the December 2008 general elections.
"There will be no run-off in the December 2008 elections, and CPP under my flag bearership, is going for the kill. NPP should be prepared to hand over power to me on behalf of CPP in January 2009," he said.
According to Mr. Aggudey, CPP has done all it takes to take over power from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2009.
Mr. George Aggudey stated these when he and five other presidential aspirants of the Convention People's Party (CPP) and some others who are aspiring for top positions in the party, took turns in the ancient town of Saltpond at the weekend, to address the Central Regional delegates conference.
Prof Agyemang Badu Akosa, Mr. George Aggudey, Dr. Fred Asante Akufo, Dr. K waku Sarfo, Mr. Bright Akwetey and Dr. Paa K wesi Nduom, made themselves available and presented their vision to the delegates.
They all stressed the need for all hands to be on deck to bring back the glorious image and performance of CPP to make it more attractive to the electorates.
Mr. George Aggudey told the delegates that, he is hopeful that he will have confirmation at the congress and urged the delegates to team up with the other delegates across the nation to give him the nod.
According to him, if there is any candidate, who is loyal, dedicated, committed and who can lead CPP to victory in 2008 general elections, there is none except Mr. George Aggudey.
He observed that the CPP is now on course having gone through tribulations, adding that, it is now strong enough to stand on its feet politically. "CPP has become more exacting and attractive political party in Ghana today due to the hard work done since 2000 elections, in which I, George Aggudey played an important and critical role for the patching up".
The CPP presidential aspirant expressed the hope that, with the new image, CPP will increase its parliamentary seats in Parliament. He noted that, in future, CPP will become a strong and powerful political party in Ghana and beyond.
One other aspirant, Dr. Kwaku Sarfo announced that, as an Nkrumaist and Pan-Africanist, he is in the race because he is dedicated to the dignification and the reclamation of the African race through self achievement and self-reliance.
He declared, "I want to help build a nation and a continent, which are industrialised with knowledge-based indigenous expertise in engineering, science, information, , communication, technology (ICT), medicine, journalism, environment, architecture and philosophy. I want to restore the spirit of self confidence in the people with the I-can-do-it attitude, so that Ghana and Africa can feed, clothe, house, educate and care for citizens as well as contribute to world culture and civilization."
Dr. Kwaku Safo noted that, as a revamped and revitalized party, CPP is the only party capable of rescuing Ghana from its present economic and social predicaments. He said he was happy that the revamping of the CPP has started at the grassroots level thus propelling it to victory. The presidential aspirant called on the delegates to give him the nod at the congress to lead CPP to victory to form the next government.
Miss Evelyn Alamisi Anabila, who is contesting for the position of National Organizer of CPP, told the delegates that, she has decided to contest the male-dominated position of National Organizer, because she has the flair to organize more voters for the CPP. Tracing her roots in the party, Miss Anabila disclosed that, she has played important roles in the party.
According to her, she was the Ashaiman constituency women's organizer of the CPP in 1992 and has worked with other activists of CPP in reshaping the party. Miss Anabila pledged to mobilize women across the country to vote for CPP to ensure victory in 2008.
"If am given the nod and become National Organizer of CPP, I will be the first woman ever in the history of Ghanaian politics to have become National Organizer of a political party. I therefore need your votes to achieve this dream.” Miss Anabila told the delegates.
