The Ghana Meteorological Services is warning of more rains with accompanying strong winds in the three northern regions.
The three regions, particularly the Northern Region, have been devastated by severe rainstorms over the last few weeks recording at least five deaths and displacing many residents.
A Senior Meteorologist Muller Tsatsu Siame told Joy News the region would also be hit by severe flooding in the next few months.
Mr. Siame advised residents to begin preparations to move to higher grounds.
He said the rains could intensify for the rest of the country next week as strong winds and floods are expected to accompany those rains.
In a related development, the Challu community in the Sissala East District of the Upper West Region, was Friday hit by a severe rain storm which ripped off the roofing of over 40 buildings.
Among the affected buildings were the Challu primary school block and the teacher’s quarters.
Assemblyman for Challu, Mr. Mahamoud Bakuri told Joy News the rains started around 1600 GMT and by 1700 GMT it had caused the havoc.
Mr. Bakuri therefore made an urgent appeal to the Sissala East District Assembly and National Disaster Management Organisation to expedite action in rehabilitating the school block and the teacher’s quarters, so as not disrupt the academic calendar.
He said the affected persons were putting up with friends and relatives.
He also appealed for a bridge to be constructed over the stream near Challu to prevent the community from being cut off from the rest of the District during the raining season.
