The government of Ghana is considering building nuclear plants to generate power.
Nuclear plants are considered some of the world’s most dangerous installations because the least spill could cause widespread destruction to humans and the environment.
But as government firms up plans to pursue the programme, energy consultant at the African Energies Consortium Kwame Jantua is urging caution.
In an interview with Joy News’ Francisca Kakra Forson, the energy consultant cited the recent Fukushima nuclear disaster in Japan as a good lesson for Ghana.
“You talk about nuclear but the amounts of money that has to go into nuclear, you can’t compare it to solar.
“Generally I am not sure whether it is going to see the light of day because it is not the first time we have heard it.
“Nuclear can be good but it has many risks that need to be considered,” he said.
He said government must do the necessary feasibility before venturing into the nuclear project.
