Adams Alhassan, a 39-year old butcher has been apprehended by the Tema Railways and Port Police for allegedly defrauding a banker under the pretext of selling him cars.
The culprit who resided at Ashiaman was said to have established contact with the victim on the internet through a business advertisement website, Google Trader.
Superintendent Chris Klomegah, Tema Regional Railways and Port Crime Officer mentioned that Adams Alhassan advertised some saloon cars for auction on the website and got in touch with Caesar Squire, a banker, after leaving his contact on the site as the sales person.
He said Alhassan managed to lure Squire to the Safe-bound Car Terminal in the Tema Port where he showed him some saloon cars to entice him.
The banker chose a Toyota Camry and a Matrix which were estimated at a cost of GHS 10,000 each.
Superintendent Klomegah explained that Squire initially made a deposit of GHS10,000 for the processing of the two vehicles after which he would add the remaining balance.
According to the Crime Officer, after collecting the money, Alhassan took Squire to a photo studio to take some passport picture to be used for the processing of the cars' documents.
He noted that while this was going on, Alhassan disappeared and switched off his phones.
The victim lodged a complaint with the said police headquarters on January 26, 2013.
The Police begun investigations and arrested Alhassan when he used the same modus operandi to defraud another victim.
Squire came in to identify Alhassan when he heard of the arrest.
In his caution statement, Alhassan Ibrahim admitted collecting the money but noted he was part of a syndicate.
He mentioned Stephen Bentsil as his boss.
Superintendent Chris Klomegah said Alhassan would be processed for court while the Police searched for Bentsil.
