The Assemblyman for Adoagyiri Zongo Mallam Jibril Gariba has appealed to the Ghana Highways Authority (GHA) and other societal institutions, to expedite efforts to save pedestrians who use the narrow footbridge over River Densu at Nsawam-Adoagyiri.He made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Nsawam-Adoagyiri, saying people are being killed needlessly by uncharitable drivers.
Mallam Jibril said the people in the area who do not have any alternative route to cross the river often use the narrow footbridge and in their attempt are frequently knocked down by inconsiderate drivers.Mallam Gariba said the situation is so alarming especially for school children. He said recently, a student of Nsawam Senior High School, Ibrahim Rashid and a truck pusher were knocked dead and the driver, showing no concern, sped off.The assemblyman said in his efforts to let the public know the seriousness of the problem, he invited TV3 network to take pictures of the precarious nature of the road and the footbridge and when they were shown on the television the highway authority hurriedly came to inspect the danger but soon abandoned the initiative leaving the indigenes to their fate.“You just imagine what could happen when these heavy trucks from Kumasi to Accra are passing on this footbridge in the night, so we are calling on the GHA to save our lives.”
