Country Coordinator of the UNAIDS, Girmy Haile, has warned Ghana to be concerned about the high rate of HIV/AIDS in Nigeria because of influx of Nigerians into the country.
Mr. Girmy Haile’s comments follows latest reports indicating a 66 percent reduction in HIV/AIDS infections in Ghana with an unprecedented coverage of over 74 percent access to drugs for treatment as opposed Nigeria’s record of the highest HIV/AIDS infections in Africa.
He maintains that “this new levels of infection in Nigeria must be a major concern for Ghana due to a lot of Nigerians coming to Ghana on assignment, business, and tourism.
"Even though this interaction has economic benefits, we need to look at the adverse effects on Ghana’s success”.
He warns Ghana may see new infections in HIV/AIDS if it does not intensify education for its youth.
