Government has issued a directive to all Ministers and State officials to park
official vehicles at their offices when they close from work.
According to the directive, no government official is required to drive state vehicles after close of work.
Information and Media Relations Minister, Mahama Ayariga disclosed these in an interview with Kojo Oppong Nkrumah on the Super Morning Show on Joy FM, Tuesday.
Mr. Ayariga said henceforth, state officials including Ministers of State must drive their own vehicles when carrying out private activities.
He said to this effect, government has further directed that number plates of all state vehicles be changed to “GV” which indicate that a vehicle is a state vehicle.
This, according to him, is to ensure that the general public can also monitor the use of the vehicles by government officials.
President Mahama during the State of the Nation address indicated plans to make soft loans available for government officials access to buy vehicles for their personal use as part of cost cutting measures.
According to Information Minister Mahama Ayariga, the President suggested the purchase of vehicles for state officials through some high purchase schemes because of government's commitment to curb the incidents of misuse of government vehicles.
