MTN, the leader in Ghana’s telecommunications industry, through the MTN Ghana Foundation has commissioned a 30-seater ICT Centre and Library for the Aborlove/Nolopi Junior High School in the Volta Region.
The ICT Centre will serve as computer training centre and a reading facility to equip pupils with ICT skills and help improve general academic work. The Centre will be serving a total of about five thousand (5000) people from Aborlove/Nolopi Anyako, Konu, Seva, Sasieme Afife and surrounding towns.
The Aborlove/Nolopi ICT Centre and Library which cost GHC60,380 is one of MTN’s contributions towards ICT education in Ghana.
Commissioning the project, the Executive Secretary of MTN Ghana Foundation, Mr. Robert Kuzoe noted that, ICT had become intricately woven into the very existence and wellbeing of our lives and it was thus necessary for students to be armed with this resource.
He said, “ICT has become a major learning and development skill and the lack of it is considered a serious development gap. The speed with which ICT is developing and its impact on our learning and development cannot be overemphasised due to the changing trends in Technology.”
In a speech read on his behalf, the Municipal Chief Executive of Keta, Sylvester Tornyeavah thanked MTN for the investment and asked for more developmental assistance in the area.
The Dufia of Aborlove/Nolopi, Togbi Djisam V also expressed his gratitude to the MTN Ghana Foundation for the project and asked the Foundation to assist the community to build a permanent structure to house its Community Health Planning Services (CHPS) Zone.
Dignitaries present at the ceremony included the MP for Keta, Richard Quashigah, sub chiefs and representatives from the beneficiary communities.
The MTN Ghana Foundation, has invested over GH¢11,000,000 in various community development projects in the areas of health and education across the country. Some of these flagship projects include 22 ICT centres, of which 10 are centres of learning built in collaboration with the UNDP.
MTN projects in the Volta region include an ICT Centre at Adidome, potable water for Kpeve Tornu community, refurbishment of Kpedze Health Centre, Support for 20 pupils from the region to participate in the National Spelling Bee Competition, Support for the Disability Options games organized in the region and a three unit classroom block for Akatsi.
MTN will continue investing in ICT projects in the rural areas to help bridge the rural –urban ICT divide.
