The much-awaited Bui Power Project will come on stream Friday when the first unit of 133 megawatts (MW) of power is inaugurated.
The project, which started in April 2008, is being financed by the governments of Ghana and China. The Chinese government is providing 90 per cent of the funds while Ghana government is taking care of the remainder.
So far, $700 million of the total cost of $800 million has been spent on the project.
It has three units and each will produce 133 MW of power. A fourth and smaller unit will produce four MW of power to bring the total amount of power to be generated to 404 MG.
The Country Representative of Sinohydro Corporation, Mr Liu Aisheng told the Daily Graphic that the high level of support and commitment from the two governments had been largely responsible for the success of the project.
Mr Lui said the other units would be ready by November this year, leaving some petty external works.
He said after the completion of the first unit the company would move to the second, third and fourth units in that order.
“The main dam and powerhouse are almost completed and I can tell you we are on course,” he said.
