Activa International Insurance Company (Ghana) Limited has donated 25 computers to the National Cardiothoracic Centre at the Korle–Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.
Mr. Stephen Kyerematen, Chief Executive Officer of Activa Insurance Company - who presented the computers - said the donation which forms part of the company’s social responsibility programmes, was also to assist the centre to maintain its status as one of the centres of medical excellence in the country.
He reiterated the vital role Information and Communications Technology (ICT) plays in the management of data and administrative work and said the donation will help a great deal in the centre’s data collection and networking.
Dr. Lawrence AgyemanSereboe, Consultant Surgeon and Lecturer at the centre who received the items made up of 15 desk-top and 10 Lap-top computers, said the gesture was timely because the management of the centre was about to purchase computers for an improved network project at the centre.
He expressed his gratitude to Activa Ghana for the gesture and said treatment of heart diseases has become “a way of life” for the staff of the centre. Dr. Sereboe promised that the computers will be put to very good use.
Those present at the ceremony were Mr. Richard Lowe, Chairman of Globus Network, a Pan-African group of insurance companies, who was in Ghana to attend a three-day seminar for Globus Network in Accra and Mr. Ian Tofield, Board Member of Activa.
The rest were Ms Honestine Togoh, Deputy Director of Nursing Services, Korle – Bu, Ms Diana Commey, Accountant at the Cardio Centre and Mr. Solomon Lartey, Chief Operating Officer of Activa Ghana.
