The 2019 Oguaa Fetu Afahye was launched with pomp and pageantry in Cape Coast on Friday.This year’s celebration got to an electrifying start with scintillating cultural performances from the Asafo companies and many other cultural troupes in Cape Coast. The launch that was punctuated with the many rich traditional performances heralds many activities that would restore the ancient city’s heritage for peace and development.The Planning committee led by Perry Mensah is upbeat that the celebration will live up to its billing having lined up series of activities to ensure that Cape Coast takes its rightful place in the Ghanaian Society. Mr Mensah at the launch enumerated series of activities that includes a facelift at the Royal Reception at the Emintsimadze Palace, the seat of government at the ancient time, and some developmental projects in Cape Coast. “The  Emintsimadze Palace would be brought to standard to the admiration of all. We are expecting people all over the world to celebrate the festival with us.“Cape Coast has blessed the hearts and minds of many people; it’s about time, such people helped the city to take its rightful place in society,” he averred.The Planning committee Chair urged the people of Cape Coast and all who have in one way or the other benefited from Cape Coast to come home to support the rebuilding of Cape Coast.“We are charting a new course, a departure from the previous celebrations. We need to support this rebuilding effort to restore our heritage. We are entreating individuals, corporate entities and other people who have once been blessed by Cape Coast to come to support this effort,” he pleaded.The Omanhen of Oguaa Traditional Area, Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, called for an attitudinal change of the people. According to him, the attitude of some of the people leaves much to be desired and urged them to be supportive of the developmental agenda of the city.“This is the only city we have. I believe we can make this place a better place for all of us. We need a renewal of any minds to ensure that this dream of ours to develop Cape Coast is achieved,” he ended.The launch was heavily supported by the Creative Arts and Media Association (CAMA) in Cape Coast, an association of Media practitioners in the Central region.
