Multimedia journalist, Afia Pokua and her Vim Foundation, have painted 12 blocks of four basic schools in Kwahu in the Eastern region. Popularly known as Vim Lady, the Adom FM news anchor said the exercise was to brighten abandoned schools in the deprived communities.  The Vim Foundation initially painted a six-classroom block, Ms Pokua built for Kumasi-Amenam in the Ashanti region. She added that as part of her efforts to make pupils appreciate the classrooms they sit in to study, she decided to paint the beneficiary schools. “It is a great feeling when pupils feel good about the classrooms they sit in to study. They feel proud of their school and it motivates them to learn harder. I also want them to feel others out there care about their education so they are motivated to learn,” she said.  The headmaster of Oboo Government School, Emmanuel Asante Acheampong thanked the Vim Foundation for the love shown to them. He said the school which was built in 1917 has for over 25 years not been painted.  “The school has a lot of plots to build teachers bungalow, but no one is willing to help, making teaching tedious for teachers,” he said. Also showing gratitude was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwahu-Mpraeso Constituency, Seth Kwame Acheampong. He said it was difficult for non-governmental organisations (NGOs) or philanthropists to do something for people in rural areas.  Mr Kwame Acheampong also called on the general public to keep supporting the Vim Foundation to do more. Afia Pokua thanked the MP and donors for supporting her. She said she will be embarking on another project and thanked all those who donated and volunteered to support the school project.
