A political science lecturer has criticized the timing of the National Communication Authority’s decision to close down Radio Gold and Radio XYZ.
According to Professor Yaw Gyampo “whoever ordered the shutdown of the radio stations at this crucial time, when our international rating on press freedom has reportedly gone down; and more importantly, when the political temperature of the country seems to be rising, has no good judgment and proper sense of timing.”

Officials of the NCA, accompanied by armed policemen, stormed the premises of Radio Gold and another pro-National Democratic Congress (NDC) station, Radio XYZ and ordered their immediate closure on Thursday.

But the professor of political science at the University of Ghana in a Facebook post insists the decision is a good thing which has been done at the wrong time.
“Could this not have been deferred to next week?” he quizzed.
