The Chairman of the Premier League Board, Welbeck Abra Appiah says he advised Dr Kofi Kodua Sarpong not to send a resignation letter to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
Abra Appiah told Kumasi-based Sika FM that Dr. Sarpong ignored his advice and before he realized what was happening, Dr. Sarpong has sent a letter of resignation to the Asantehene resigning from his position as Asante Kotoko’s Executive Board Chairman.
“When I heard about Dr. Sarpong’s decision to resign, I advised him against sending a letter. I told him that it would not be polite to send such a letter, since the Asantehene did not give him a letter of appointment in the first place. He did not listen to me and before I realized, he had sent the letter.”
Abra-Appiah denied reports that he was leading a delegation to apologise to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on Dr. Sarpong’s behalf, adding that it is not the remit of the Premier League Board to meddle in such matters.
“We only intervene when there are issues between Premier League clubs but in Kotoko’s case, we have no involvement. So it is not true that I am leading such a delegation to apologise to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on Dr. Sarpong’s behalf.”
