The youth wing of UK/Ireland branch of governing National Democratic Congress is urging Ghanaians and political in particular, to jealously protect the country's democratic credentials and work together as a people, after the Supreme Court delivers judgment on the election petition. According to the NDC youth, "Ghana’s democratic credentials in the eyes of the international community remain unquestionable" and therefore, all must cooperate to protect the peace and stability of Ghana. "We are confident that the Supreme Court of Ghana will deliver a verdict that demonstrates the sovereign will of the people of Ghana on whose behalf they exercise judicial authority," the group said in a statement. "We particularly call on the Youth of Ghana to stay loyal to the State, avoid all acts of violence and intimidation post-election petition verdict and offer full support and cooperation to law enforcement agencies in protecting the peace and stability of Ghana. We challenge the Ghanaian media to exercise good judgment and discretion." The panel of nine justices adjudicating the petition at the Supreme Court is set to deliver a historic judgment Thursday, August 29 on the petition which was filed by three leading members of the New Patriotic Party - 2012 flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, his running mate Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia and party Chairman Jacob Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey. The petitioners claim the elections were rigged in favour of John Mahama and are therefore seeking nullification of the results.
