The former Ashanti Regional Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Sly Akakpovi has passed away.
He died at dawn on Wednesday at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital polyclinic.
Reports say Mr. Akakpovi, who was suddenly taken ill on Tuesday night drove to the hospital for treatment just before midnight.
But his condition worsened shortly on arrival and he died a few hours later.
The Acting Ashanti Regional Secretary of the party, Doe Tamakloe, confirmed the death on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show.
Mr Akakpovi was suspended from the NDC last year after what party officials described as his flirtation with the Democratic Freedom Party, whose leaders broke away from the NDC.
He was still serving the suspension till his death.
