“My relationship with Dani goes much further than him taking my old No.22 shirt,” stated French national football squad and Monaco defender Éric Abidal. The French international spoke about his relationship with Brazil international and Spain’s FC Barcelona defender Dani Alves. To note, the 30-year-old Brazilian now wears the No.22 jersey, which used to belong to Abidal when he had played at Barça. “When I had to undergo surgery, he offered to donate his liver. “Of course, it’s completely out of the question because he is a professional footballer. Our relationship goes much deeper than friendship,” Goal.com quotes Abidal as saying. The Monaco captain also brought to light attempts by former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola to take him to Germany and join him at Bayern Munich, only for the latter obstructed any move based on medical grounds. To note, Éric Abidal had undergone a liver transplantation surgery in March 2012.
