Some 130 police personnel including four women have begun a-30 day specialized training against terrorist attacks.
The personnel, drawn from the 11 police regions, would also be equipped with skills for crowd control, protection of VIPs, strategies in Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and the protection of vulnerable among others.
The Director-General of Police Operations, Mr John Kudalor, said at the opening ceremony that the increasing demand on the Service for internal security, called for “more diverse, complex but specialized,” training.
“Considering the emerging law enforcement and security challenges in the country and the sub-region, the Police Administration …approved that the Service needed a specialized training to effectively execute a planned programme in violent crime management,” he said.
Mr Kudalor appealed to the personnel to be psychologically prepared to prove equal to the task.
He announced that the Pwalugu Police Training School would soon be turned into a specialized Police Training School where capacities of personnel would be built.
Volta Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police Kofi Asare, asked the personnel to be “disciplined on and off the square.”
He told them to take the exercise seriously and commit their minds and heart to it.
The personnel were taken through a 30-minute show of force exercise after the ceremony.
