Some areas in Accra are expected to experience total darkness tonight, Friday, October 4, 2013.
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) says it is likely to shed off 80 megawatts of power today.
Daniel Adjei Larbi, who works with the public relations directorate of ECG, explained to Joy News that the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDco) said it was experiencing some difficulties at source.
“Around 5:30 this evening we received an SOS from GRIDco that they have some challenges at Akosombo and due to that we need to drop 80 megawatts.”
This means a quarter of Accra would go off, he said.
He said GRIDco assured ECG that they are working to rectify the problem, and immediately the problem is solved, “they will alert us to put everybody on”.
He is hopeful by 10 pm, which is an off peak period, things will return to normalcy.
