Authorities at the police Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) have served notice of a renewed commitment to transfer and severely sanction officers who persist in engaging in corrupt practices.
In June this year, the Director-General of MTTU, ACP Angwubutoge Awuni directed the transfer of all officers at Sunyani in the Bono Ahafo Region for their alleged involvement in extorting monies from commuters particularly those on the Techiman-Buipe road.
ACP Awuni told Joy News several more transfers have since been effected. He said his office will continue the process until they get rid of all corrupt officers.
He said, "We haven't heard anything about corruption in the Bono Ahafo region as far as we did those changes. We only replaced them [so] they go to other duties and allow other people in Sunyani to take over their duties."
"We have done it in Madina, Ordorkor [and] Kasoa...it is making an impact. We haven't had of reports of harassments from Sunyani any longer," the Director-General of the MTTU added.
