Former Member of Parliament for Adentan constituency, Kojo Adu-Asare has chided the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for putting unnecessary pressure on President John Mahama.

He said the NPP incessant “lamentations” about the current state of the economy is an exaggeration of the actual fact on the ground.

Adu-Asare made the comment on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday.

The NPP has branded the Mahama-led administration as “mediocre” and a “total failure”.  The party is projecting Ghana’s economy could collapse if government does not stop the excessive borrowing on both the domestic and international markets.

The NPP has also accused government of creating, looting and sharing the state resources to the detriment of Ghanaians.

But Adu-Asare opined that the NPP are not being fair to President Mahama.

According to him, with barely a year in office, the president is not a magician to change Ghana in a day.

“Ghanaians must be patient with President Mahama just as they did for Kufuor. This situation is not peculiar to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) but the NPP sit back and make it sound as if the situation is gloomy”

The former Adentan MP said in the face of difficulties, government is putting in place pragmatic measures to improve the socio-economic standards of Ghanaians.

He posited that the NPP with its abysmal performance after eight years in power has no moral authority to challenge the government because it [NPP] was a bad manager of the economy.

“No one should pontificate righteousness; it is true that there are concerned about our economy but what NPP is doing is vile propaganda.”

Adu-Asare urged the NPP to “get off the back of President Mahama” if it cannot proffer any better alternative to complement government’s efforts.
