Police in Kumasi have arrested nine supporters of the National Democratic Congress in the Manhyia South constituency of Ashanti, for locking up public toilets in the area.
The youth, led by the Branch chairman, hit the streets this morning to protest what they say is financial malfeasance on the part of constituency executives of the party.
Luv FM’s Erastus Asare Donkor who witnessed the demonstration and the arrest, reported the angry youth early on locked up the Local Enterprises and skills Development Programme (LESDEP) and metro offices.
They swore and chanted against the executives whilst busily locking up the offices.
Leader of the demonstration George Abanga said the constituency executives and the LESDEP coordinator have formed a “looting brigade” and are ripping the constituency apart.
According to him, the LESDEP coordinator has been collecting monies from LESDEP beneficiaries with the promise of providing them tricycles but nothing has been provided.
He called for the resignation of the LESDEP coordinator as well as the executives.
The police intervened and arrested the leaders of the demonstration after they locked up the two public toilets.
Erastus Donkor said the police are now screening the leaders and have reopened the closed offices and the public toilet.
