The Police say they have no case against the embattled driver of the sacked deputy Communications Minister Victoria Hammah.
Lawrence Quayeson was arrested Thursday evening after the deputy minister filed a complaint at the Mile 7 police station in Accra, accusing him of secretly recording her conversation.
The content of the secret recording made the headlines last week on many social networking sites as well as media outfits.
The voice on the recording purported to be that of Victoria Hammah, among other things, criticised another deputy minister-Rachel Appoh- for daring to challenge her substantive boss- Nana Oye Lithur. She was also reported to have said that she was aspiring to make one million dollars in politics before bowing out.
Ms. Hammah was sacked barely 24 hours after the content of the tape went viral. She however suspected her driver, who is believed to be her cousin, of being behind the recording and reported the case to the police.
Quayeson was arrested but subsequently granted bail on Friday, after giving a statement to the police.
Greater Accra Police PRO, DSP Freeman Tettey told Citi News, the driver has not committed any offence under Ghana's law.
"I don't think there is anything to investigate because we could not establish any offence committed by the driver.
"As and when there are other developments then we will continue the investigations.
"As it stands now and based on the facts available, we are not sure there is anything to investigate.
"He has not been charged," he stated.
Meanwhile the Ablekuma West Constituency executives of the NDC have described as harsh the decision by the president to sack Victoria Hammah.
The deputy organiser of the constituency L. Dickson said the president ought to have conducted thorough investigation before taking action.
He said the president must take a second look at the decision.
