President John Dramani Mahama has congratulated the Black Stars of Ghana for securing a third consecutive qualification to the World Cup.
The President wrote on his twitter page that “the black stars have done our nation proud for qualifying again for the FIFA World Cup. Congrats! Brazil here we come”.
He also warned other nations that are likely to meet Ghana in Brazil to beware.
Ghana qualified for the World Cup finals on Tuesday evening, despite losing 2-1 away to Egypt in the second leg of their CAF play-off.
The Black Stars boasted a 6-1 advantage from their meeting in October and were never in serious danger of being upset.
Amr Zaki gave the home side slight hope with a first-half goal but no further inroads were made until the closing stages, when Gedo struck. With seconds of the game left, the visitors pulled one back through Kevin-Prince Boateng was playing his tenth game for the Stars.
The comprehensive 7-3 aggregate win means Ghana have qualified for their third consecutive World Cup, while Egypt have not made the finals since 1990.
Egypt played in front of their home fans for the first time in almost two years following the Port Said riots and ousting of President Mohammed Morsi.
