President of UT Holdings Prince Kofi Amoabeng and Chief Executive of SOFT Tribe, Herman Chinery-Hesse were last Saturday November 16 honored at this years' Ghana UK-based Achievement Awards for their outstanding contribution to Ghanaian economy. 

Mrs Cherie Blair, wife of former Prime Minister of UK Tony Blair, presenting the Most Outstanding Award to Mr Prince Kofi Amoabeng, said, “GUBA awards is a great occasion to celebrate the range of skills and talents emanating from Ghana, to the huge benefit of the United Kingdom.”

IT entrepreneur Herman Chinery-Hesse, who received the Exceptional Achievement 2013 award, told Joy Business, the award would encourage him to do more for the country when it comes to the development of the information technology sector.

Chief Executive of  GUBA awards,  Dentaa Amoateng  in her closing  remarks  to the over 500 guests at the Park Plaza Riverbank Hotel in  London appealed to corporate organisations and individuals to keep supporting the good work of GUBA and its foundation.

“Next year will be our fifth anniversary so we are appealing to all to help sponsor and make it a special one. The GUBA vision is to become a major social catalyst to spur investment opportunities, business partnerships and innovation between Ghana and the UK, and we’d like to thank you all sincerely for supporting the cause and those who work hard to support it.”

Among the guests were GUBA patron Hugh Quarshie (Holby City), Mrs Cherie Blair, His Excellency Peter Jones British High Commissioner to Ghana, MOBO’s Kanya King, Black Stars and Fulham footballer Derek Boateng, actor Clarke Peters of the Wire fame and several other dignitaries. Hosted by ITN news presenter Charlene White and Henry Bonsu of Colourful Radio, the euphoric atmosphere was filled with true Ghanaian pride and excitement. It was supported by business leaders like Felix Nyarko-Pong, CEO uniBank (Ghana) limited, Eric Guichard, CEO of Homestrings and Jonathan Howard, CEO of Business Council for Africa. The evening saw 18 GUBA awards being handed to deserving winners in various categories and special achievements. Each of the 18 received a carefully designed trophy with their award details and names engraved on it.
