Mrs. Fati Saaka, Nkoranza District HIV/AIDS focal person, has urged teachers to join in the campaign against the spread of HIV/AIDS by educating students on the causes and effects of the pandemic.
Mrs. Saaka was addressing a meeting of the district AIDS committee at Nkoranza during which members drew up programmes for the celebration of the district’s HIV/AIDS day scheduled for January 18, next year.
She said teachers’ involvement in the educational campaign would help the students to also inform their parents about the pandemic.
Mrs. Saaka stressed the need for community based organizations to continue with the educational campaign to enable the people to guard against negative practices that could make them contract the disease.
Mrs. Eva Saku, Nkoranza district public health nurse, advised parents against the use of common razors and tooth brushes in their homes since the practice could lead them to contract HIV/AIDS.
She deplored the attitude of some people to stigmatize people living with HIV/AIDS and shun their company.
Mrs. Saku advised the youth, who could not control their sexual desires to use condoms.Source: GNA
