Pollster Ben Ephson says Nana Akufo-Addo still remains the most popular candidate within the New Patriotic Party and will win the party's flagbearership race if he decides to contest.
He is not sure however, if the consummate politician will appeal to floating voters and win the General elections even if he wins the party's primaries.
Nana Akufo-Addo is yet to declare if he will contest for the third time, having failed in his two previous attempts to become the president of Ghana.
He contested the 2008 general elections but lost to the then opposition leader, Prof John Mills.
He again contested the 2012 elections and lost. He disputed the election results and proceeded to court to challenge the declaration. The court affirmed the results so declared by the Electoral Commission. The NPP leader disagreed with the verdict but respected the decision and congratulated the winner, President John Mahama.
He told his followers he would take a temporary break from politics and announce if he would contest the 2016 elections.
Speaking on Asempa FM's Ekosii-Sen programme on whether Nana Addo is a viable candidate for the NPP in 2016, Ben Ephson said he cannot say whether the NPP leader will win the upcoming elections.
He was however, unequivocal in his conviction that Nana Addo is the man to beat in the NPP primaries.
He said the return of the NPP leader will help the party in many significant ways but was quick to add that he would need some sympathy and support from floating voters.
According to him, about ten leading members of the party have shown interest in contesting the party's flagbearership race.
